Know you are utterly, perfect

Are you a slave to routine?

Or a slave to your mind?

Or a slave to the fears

That now riddle mankind?

Those invisible shackles

Are locked only by thought

Fictitious, limiting beliefs

Of which many are taught

Surrender takes courage

A lengthening of stride

A desire to be better

To encompass, not divide

Are you only counting days

Of a life, to get through?

Anxiety pandemic

Acquiring more, a virtue

Wake up from your sleep!

Seize the present; it’s a gift

Know you are utterly, perfect

Then start to heal your own rift

If I was in charge

If I was in charge

I’d peel back the layers

Dispelling the lies

Fed to us, the taxpayers

If I was in charge

I’d lift up the veil

Revealing the truth

Every sordid detail

If I was in charge

Every child would be fed

Consolidating resources

The wealth would be spread

If I was in charge

I’d dismantle hierarchy

Making all of us equal

Create a social autarchy

If I was in charge

I’d hold everyone accountable

To be part of the change

All problems surmountable

“Do you know…?”

“Do you know what I think?”

No my friend,

Does it iron out the kink?

“Do you know what I would do?”

No my friend,

Go on, give me a clue…

“Do you know what I would say?”

No my friend,

Would you call it a day?

“Do you know who I would tell?”

No my friend,

But how would that quell?

“Do you know what I suggest?”

No my friend,

Are you really so blessed?

“Do you know how I would act?”

No my friend,

Is it so matter-of-fact?

“Do you know what’s being said?”

No my friend,

What light can you shed?

“Do you know where you should go?”

No my friend,

I’ll just go with the flow

Pockets of sunshine

Hands pushed deep

Into the rain mac of Spring

Small pockets of sunshine

Thaw cold, tired hands

Within soft, familiar linings

Spare warm change

Loose, amongst used tissues

Crumpled with old receipts

Of promises and dreams

Now out of date

A spare key to your heart

Familiar by touch

Returned, unwanted

A reminder of what was

The locks now changed

Bits of fluff from the past

Cling like velcro

To an old chocolate wrapper

Sticky from saccharin promises

Of empty, sweet fulfilment

Do you…?

Do you remember me fondly?

Do the thoughts make you smile?

Do I still enter your heart?

Do I rest there a while?

Do you know where you’re heading?

Do you ever look back?

Do you wish things were different?

Do you play our soundtrack?

Do you know who you are?

Do you rework the past?

Do you omit you were happy?

Do you feel just aghast?

Do you have the big picture?

Do you join up the dots?

Do I occupy your dream world?

Do you ignore the snapshots?

Do new faces surround you?

Do you miss what you had?

Do you now have acceptance?

Do you ever feel sad?

She stood in her own way…

She was an innocent child

Full of hope, full of dreams

Not yet tainted by others

Nor involved in their schemes

She loved being silly

Being carefree in life

Unaware that her learning

Was just other people’s strife

As a good girl she listened

Never wanting to be rude

Adopting the methods of others

Far too young to be shrewd

People pushing and pulling

Saying who she should be

Cast a shadow on her senses

Preventing her to stay free

She conformed to their wishes

Wanting to make others proud

So she kept herself small

Remaining part of the crowd

She stood in her own way

Blind to all of her needs

Feeding other people’s dreams

Never sowing her own seeds

Then the tide started turning

Others didn’t know best

With resolve she looked inwards

Seeing all she’d repressed

Peeling away many layers

She saw her inner truth

That she knew all the answers

And reconciled with her youth
