The One Note Wonder

The One Note Wonder

With only one note

He would tweet night and day

Just this one soulful sound

That was all he could play

He’d spend time alone

Just to work on a tune

But the same note emerged

Every day, night and noon

Nowhere else in the land

Was there such a sad bird

For no-one took delight

In the noise that they heard

Even worms, they would giggle

At this repetitive sound

Saying the rain had more rhythm

When its drops hit the ground

So he worked on his whistle

For all he was worth

And ignored when the others

Gave his nest a wide berth

Yet he longed to make friends

With the birds who could sing

To be part of their concerts

Have a spring in his wing

But he felt so alone

And had no self-belief

Yet with only one note

Could he convey his deep grief

Days and months he spent moping

Feeling sorry for himself

Then realised what he was doing

Was just bad for his health

“I may not be songful

Sing a sweet lullaby

But I’ve something to say

So I must hold my head high”

So he flew branch to branch

Telling all those who’d hear

“I’m the Best One Note Wonder

In the Whole Hemisphere”

Belonging

I am ready

For your embrace

My own embrace

Now, far-reaching

And makes whole

The inadequacies

I believed were mine

That indeed belong

To no one

I have no judgement

In kind

That you will be anything

Other than you are

So join me

Knowing

That we belong

To ourselves

Before we belong

To each other

Cultivate

Cultivate your trust

Make firm your inner belief

And know the path will rise

That your mind will find relief

Cultivate your sight

To see what’s not in view

Let intuition guide

Revealing what is true

Cultivate your heart

And love all that you are

This journey starts with you

Create your own boudoir

Cultivate your faith

And honour your divine

The spirit of the self

Should be your only shrine

Cultivate your voice

Make heard the words inside

And lift the veils high

The truth you sought to hide

In the space between spaces

In the space between spaces

My love fills the void

And my silent learnings

Make me whole

As I stand

Back to back with

My differences fusing

And healing

My forgotten pain

In the space between spaces

I remember

My soulful pact

He whispers…

Brushing my cheek

Gently moving my hair

He whispers…

Words that we shared

Of all that could be

He whispers…

Stroking my back

Down the length of my spine

He whispers…

Drawing me close

Into the depths of his heart

He whispers…

Reminding me of a time

When the earth did stand still

He whispers…

Memories of deep love

Of our pact made as souls

He whispers…

Everyone else is taken

The hand you’re dealt on being born

The transience of this spread

Just circumstance; it’s nothing more

The Universal thread

Which path? Only you can discern

With your compass of freewill

Believe you’re perfect as you are

Taking stock, by standing still

Do you feel the odds are stacked

In other people’s favour?

A battle between your heart and mind

Will always make you waiver

Oscar Wilde said it once

His words are not mistaken

You can only ever be yourself

As everyone else is taken
